Children’s Theater Workshop

RESERVE – The St. John Theatre presents its Children’s Theater Workshop from June 1 – 12, 2015 at the theater, 115 West 4th Street in Reserve. Director Greer M. Millet will introduce the children to musical theater by directing Cinderella KIDS.  Registration forms can be downloaded at www.stjohntheatre.com.  The two-week workshop is $75.  Mail the form and a check to St John Theatre, P.O. JUNE 1 – 4

Cheerleading Kiddie CampHAHNVILLE – Cheerleading Kiddie Camp will be held 9 a.m. to noon June 1 – 4 for girls age 3 – 13 at the Hahnville High School gym. Cost is $50 for a snack and T-shirt. For more information, contact klumar@stcharles.k12.a.us or tenright@stcharles.k12.la.us.

JUNE 1 – JULY 9

Free summer lunch

ST. ROSE – The St. Charles Department of Community Services will offer free lunch this summer at several local schools for children under age 18 June 1 and July 9. Lunch will be served Monday through Thursday each week from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at St. Rose Elementary School, 230 Pirate Drive; Luling Elementary School, 904 Sugarhouse Road, and E.J. Landry Alternative School, 108 Tiger Circle in Hahnville. To qualify, children must under 18 years old or disabled attending a state accredited school. No fee or registration is required. Zoning open house

HAHNVILLE – The St. Charles Parish Planning and Zoning Department will host an open house from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 4 in the Courthouse Council Chambers, 15045 River Road, to discuss proposed changes to the parish’s zoning ordinance completed as part of Phase I of an ongoing modernization project. Those interested in reviewing the proposed changes can download them from the news section of the parish website at www.stcharlesparish-la.gov/news beginning May 28. To view the current code, log on to www.stcharlesparish-la.gov and click on ‘Code of Ordinances.’ The zoning ordinance is labeled Appendix A.Scholarship deadline

PARISHWIDE – College student who graduated from Destrehan or Hahnville high schools may be eligible to apply for the Ethel Schoeffner Scholarship. Forms are available for the 2015 fall semester at the St. Charles School Board office. Deadline to apply is June 4.  For more information, call 758-6289.

Planning Commission meeting

HAHNVILLE – The St. Charles Parish Planning Commission will meet 7 p.m. June 4 in the Parish Council chambers, 15045 River Road, Hahnville.

Free dog training for students

HARAHAN – Beginning June 9, the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter will offer a free three-week summer dog training program to students ages 8 to 10 years old and 11 to 14 years old at the Jefferson Parish East Bank Shelter at No. 1 Humane Way in Elmwood. The child must be able to control the dog and must be accompanied by a parent for at least the first and second classes. Classes will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 9 – 10 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. A copy of the vet record showing the dog is current on rabies and parvo vaccinations must be included with the application. ST. ROSE –St. Charles Parish Triad meeting will be held for senior citizens in the parish 10 a.m. June 9 at the American Legion Post 366, 12188 River Road, St. Rose. Clear communication will be the meeting topic. Free health screening and lunch will be provided. Attendees should bring any unused or expired medication for safe disposal. Driving course

RESERVE – The Laplace Chapter No. 3757 AARP will sponsor a 55/Alive Driving Course on Thursday, June 11 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. This is a one-day course at the Council of Aging Senior Citizens Center at 124 Regala Park, Reserve, LA. Money to expand workforce

LaPlace – The The River Region Chamber of Commerce will hold a Lunch & Learn Monday to Expand your Workforce session 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 19 at Chamber Resource Center, 394 Belle Terre Blvd., Laplace. The Louisiana Workforce Commission can provide wage reimbursement for on-the-job training to assist employers who want to hire additional workers. Potential financial assistance can range from $3,000 to $5,000 per new hire trainee. Admission is free to chamber members. For more information, call (985) 359-9777.
