ST. CHARLES PARISH – United Way of St. Charles is preparing for the 13th annual 5K Bridge Run/Walk and first post-race festival scheduled for Saturday, April 4.
This particular bridge run draws on average 1,800 participants from world-class runners to walkers with toddlers in strollers. And this year the event serves as the Louisiana 5K Championship event.
The race starts below sea-level in Destrehan and crosses the Mississippi River ending in Luling. At its tallest point, the Hale Boggs Bridge is 442 feet, 218 feet taller than the tallest pyramid, 149 feet taller than the Superdome, and 117 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty. Anyone who wants to participate is encouraged.
Registration is $20 per person and includes a 2009 5K Bridge Run T-shirt. Participants can register individually or they can indicate their company team name on the application form.
The one-of-a-kind “Bridge Run” trophy, created by local artist Matt Touchard, is awarded to the company with the greatest number of participants. The winning company traditionally holds the trophy for one year until the next bridge run.
The post-race party has become a favorite with runners, families and the community.
Traditionally, there is jambalaya provided by Cytec, spacewalks, live music, and games. This year, the post-race party has been expanded into a festival.
Crafters and local vendors are invited to set up booths at the festival. The booths will promote local talent and increase awareness of the businesses and services available in St. Charles Parish.
The festival will also include face painting, inflatables, the bookmobile and much more!
If you would like for your company logo to be on the registration form, Web site, or T-shirts, the United Way of St. Charles is accepting sponsorship at several levels.
