Time running out for early Bridge Run registration

ST. CHARLES PARISH – The United Way of St. Charles Parish will once again be giving parishioners the opportunity to run across the Hale Boggs Bridge from Destrehan to Luling during its 15th Annual Bridge Run, a 5k run/walk.

Trista Brazan, campaign and communications manager for the United Way, will run the race for the first time this year.

“Being a runner myself, I can say that many local events don’t have as many runners as well as the view that this race has,” Brazan said of the event, which averages 1,500 runners each year. “The race provides a unique view of the Mississippi River and beautiful St. Charles Parish, and it is the largest race across the Mississippi River in the nation, so it’s definitely something to take part in.

“It’s going to be a good time.”

The event will take place on April 2 with registration at 7:30 a.m. and the race starting at 8:30 a.m. at the East Bank Bridge Park. The race will conclude at the West Bank Bridge Park with music, refreshments and family activities.
Brazan said that the event has grown a lot in the 15 years it has been held thanks to the local community.

“We’ve gotten a chance to see how the event has grown throughout the years. The community has really been a big part of that,” she said. “They’ve really rallied around this event and it’s become a staple event in the community.”

Registration is $25 before March 26. The price increases to $30 after that date and until race day. To register or to find out more, visit www.uwaysc.org.
