Tarpon Rodeo replaced with Grand Isle fundraiser

The annual Tarpon Rodeo in Grand Isle, the oldest fishing tournament in the country, will be replaced this year by a new event: the Island Aid festival.

The event will feature several local and national acts, including Three Dog Night, LeAnn Rimes, The Topcats, The Wiseguys and Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys.

The festival will take place on Saturday, July 24, with gates opening at 10 a.m.

Admission is $10 per person at the gate. No presale tickets are available.

Although the sport fishing ban at Grand Isle has been lifted, the rodeo association decided to hold the fundraising event to avoid interfering with clean-up efforts in the Gulf.

No ice chests, umbrellas, video cameras, pets, food, beverages or bicycles will be allowed. There will also be no smoking allowed in the vendor area.
