Swamp pop fest for cystic fibrosis

GONZALES – The Price LeBlanc Toyota and Nissan Swamp Pop Music Festival will take place on Friday and Saturday, July 19 and 20.

Over 6,000 visitors are expected to visit the festival that will raise critical funds that aid the fight to find a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF) all while enjoying a special genre of music native only to Louisiana.

Van and Grace Broussard kick off the exciting event on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by Warren Storm Willie T & Cypress w/ Tommy McLain and Don Rich will wrap it up around midnight.

On Saturday the music is non-stop from noon-11:30 p.m. featuring Greg Melancon and Friends with Special Guest Ronnie Melancon, Aaron Foret, South 70 Band, Kenny Fife & Bac Trac, Kenny Cornett & Killin’ Time, Tommy G & Stormy Weather and Junior LaCrosse & Sumtin Sneaky with close out the festival.

In addition to the music, the festival will feature a two-day Jambalaya Festival Association Cook-Off. Visitors can sample jambalaya prepared by close to a hundred chefs who will meet head-to-head in two separate heats.

Also, a motorcycle poker run presented by The Wild Pigs Motorcycle Club will be held on Saturday. Contestants will receive prizes for the best and worst hands.

The event will be held at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center’s Trademart building located at 9039 S St Landry Ave. in Gonzales. Admission to the 16th Annual Swamp Pop Festival is $10 on Friday and $15 on Saturday.
