DESTREHAN – Kindergarten through third grade students of public, private, parochial and home schools can make a “heritage connection” at Destrehan Plantation’s Heritage Day Ocktoberfest on Oct. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the manor grounds. Parish third graders can also attend Oct. 16.
The event is a hands-on experience for all kids with demonstrations on candle making, weaving, period dancing and so much more.
A Civil War encampment is on tap with the firing of cannons by the Slidell Battery. Others will be on hand to address Native American culture and archeology.
Admission is $5 for students and adults. Tours of the plantation are an additional $5.
