Spring Heritage Day is back at Destrehan

DESTREHAN – On Friday and Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15, Destrehan Plantation will hold its Spring Heritage Days and Civil War Encampment.

In addition to the total encampment & artillery,  demonstrations include open hearth cooking, bousillage construction, herbal healing, indigo dyeing, calligraphy, moss mattress making, antique toys and games, carpentry, period music & dancing, spinning, weaving, blacksmithing & quilting.

Tours of the plantation house are available at an additional fee.

The Friday event is geared to school groups.  Admission is $5 per person.  Schools may register by calling Angela Matherne, Heritage Education Coordinator at 985-764-9315.

Saturday, the event is open to the public.  Admission is $5 per adult and teen.  Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge.
