Relay for Life

LULING – Organizers are again inviting the public to join in the festivities at the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of St. Charles Parish beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 13 at the West Bank Bridge Park in Luling.

Teams made up of community members through families, business, hospitals, schools and churches – people from all walks of life – put on the event each year. Teams seek sponsorship prior to Relay, all with the goal of supporting the American Cancer Society.

This year’s theme is “Relay Goes to Disney.” Teams will dress up and decorate their campsites according to their favorite Disney movies.

Food, music, games and prizes will be available at the event.

All proceeds go to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, which offers support services for cancer patients, survivors and family members.

Special activities for 2013 include the Ochsner Blood Mobile from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., a Louisiana Custom Cruisers Car Show from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. and performances by the Allemands Cajun Dancers, Guns n’ Hoses, Dance Unlimited, Harry Hurst Runnerettes and VooDoo Elite Cheerleaders.

The event also helps attendees remember those lost to cancer and fight back against a disease that takes too much during the Luminaria Ceremony. Luminaria will be lit at the West Bank Bridge Park with a ceremony beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Luminaria are available for purchase for $10 by contacting any Relay For Life team member.
