DESTREHAN – The German Coast Farmers’ Market will host its 2nd Annual Gumbo Cook-off on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Ormond Plantation on River Road in Destrehan.
Plan to visit the market and taste free samples of the gumbo recipes prepared by the market vendors and board member. Patrons will be given a ballot to cast a vote for their favorite gumbo.
The winner of the competition will receive a free week’s market fee and have “Bragging Rights” for one full year.
Other attractions at the Market on Sat. Feb. 23 are performances by the “Allemands Cajun Dancers”, Mask Face Painting, and the sale of Girl Scout Cookies.
The East Bank Market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. The West Bank Market is open from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on River Road in Luling, only 0.7 mile upriver from the I-310 exit.
