Live music, food, crafts at festival

DESTREHAN – Destrehan Plantation Celebrates its popular Spring Arts and Crafts Festival March 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the manor grounds located at 13034 River Rd. in Destrehan.

Arts and crafts vendors from throughout the country will offer a variety of wood crafts, pottery, jewelry, quilts, ceramics, prints, oil paintings, dolls, stained glass, clothing, baskets and much more.

Over 20 chefs will prepare local delicacies such as fried seafood, gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice and other favorites.

The antique area will have 12 dealers inside the unique 1840s Mule Barn as well as additional vendors adjacent to the barn.

Craftsmen will demonstrate how our ancestors cooked on an open-hearth and dyed clothes with indigo.

Children’s activities include pony rides and face paintings. A space walk will also be available for children wanting to play while parents shop or enjoy other activities. Tours of the plantation house by costumed guides will be available for an additional fee.

Live musical entertainment is included in the admission fee. The schedule includes Jude LeBlanc from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday followed by Summer Breeze at 1 p.m. Sunday’s schedule features Kayla Woodson and Louisiana Lightning from 10 a.m. to noon followed by Local Option 2 at 1 p.m.
