Krewe du Market kicks off Mardi Gras parades

Don’t miss your chance to see great costumes, miniature floats and festive throws this weekend at the German Coast Farmers’ Market.

The 5th Annual Kid Krewe du Market parade will roll on Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. at the market’s Ormond Plantation location.

New to the line-up this year will be St. Charles Borromeo cheerleaders leading the parade across the market. Ann Montgomery, with the market, also hopes that nice weather will be new this year.

“It’s always been really cold or very nasty weather,” Montgomery said about the parade. “Maybe great weather could be something new this year and we would welcome it.

In the event of inclement weather, please check www.germancoastfarmersmarket.org for cancellation notification.

Registration will be at 9 a.m. and is open to all children ages 10 and under and their decorated wagons. “Floats” must be pulled by an adult and throws must be supplied by the participants. A $5 entry fee is required. First- and second-place prizes will be awarded for “Best of Show.” Ann Montgomery, with the market, said that this year’s winner will reign over the 2012 parade.
