Battle for the Paddle

Smell the aroma of cajun food at its finest as the best cooks in the parish prepare gumbo and jambalaya dishes for the public. The much anticipated Fifth Annual United Way of St. Charles Battle for the Paddle Challenge is Thurs., Oct. 5 from  4p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the West Bank Bridge Park.

Only $5 gets you into this all-you-can-eat extravaganza (children 12 and are free). Along with unlimited sampling of gumbo and jambalaya, attendees will enjoy live musical entertainment and local celebrity judges.

Prizes are awarded to the top three teams in both the Gumbo and Jambalaya competition, including the coveted grand prize – a beautifully engraved wooden paddle. All teams participating receive participation prizes.

At last year’s event, even though the region was recovering in the wake of Katrina, 42 teams competed for the titles of best Jambalaya chef and best Gumbo chef in St. Charles Parish.
