Wildcats blank Higgins, 6-0, in first district game

Destrehan rode an impressive defense performance to back-to-back wins over St. Paul’s and Higgins. The Wildcats held on to beat St. Paul’s 4-2 last week and then blanked Higgins 6-0 Tuesday in their first district game of the season.

With the wins, Destrehan improves to 11-12 on the season.

The Wildcats managed only five hits against St. Paul’s, but they made them count. Trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning, Jace Weber singled to drive in both Jacob Marino and Jesse Bryant to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead.

Destrehan put the game away in the seventh on an RBI double by Brennan Quigley.

Bryant brought in the Wildcats other run with a single in the third.

Walter Johnson got the win, giving up no hits or runs in 3.1 innings. He struck out two in the game.

Brett Hymel got the save in a perfect seventh inning.

 

Destrehan 6 Higgins 0

The Wildcat bats came alive in their first district game against Higgins, as the team spread 10 hits over seven innings. Destrehan took a 1-0 lead in the second, added three runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh for the final margin.

Kyle Ray was impressive from the stripe, allowing only one hit and striking out six in five innings for the victory. Ray also drove in two runs on a 3-for-4 performance.

Quigley went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Brock Benedetto was perfect in his only plate appearance, driving in a run on a single.

The Wildcats will host John Ehret Thursday at 4 p.m. and Parkview Baptist on Saturday at 3 p.m.
