Hahnville hung with West Monroe for a quarter, but the Rebels blew the game wide open in the second by scoring 28 points on their way to a 49-14 victory in the first round of the class 5A state playoffs.

Hahnville only trailed 14-7 to start the second and began the quarter attempting a 34-yard field goal. However, the kick was blocked and Xavier Woods returned it 73 yards to give the Rebels a 21-7 lead.

On Hahnville’s next series, Easton Melancon threw an interception that was returned 45 yards by Alex Young to increase the West Monroe lead to 28-7.

Melancon’s second pick-six interception came a minute later, when Woods returned the ball 40 yards to put West Monroe on top 35-7.

The Rebels final points in the quarter came on a 62-yard punt return by Woods for his third score of the half.

West Monroe would add another touchdown in the final seconds of the third quarter on a short touchdown catch by Logan Murray.
