Twins lead HHS cross country team to 3 wins

Led by twins Beau and Bryce Robinson, the Hahnville boys cross country team won its third consecutive meet on Oct. 10 at Houma Christian School.

During the meet, the Robinsons finished in first and second place. This marks the fourth straight meet where the two have done so.

The Tigers easily finished ahead of second place South Lafourche, 39-65. South Terrebonne finished in third with 70 points.

With hardly any shade on the course, the Robinson twins finished the three mile course in 16:12 (Beau) and 16:24 (Bryce). The third and fourth place runners were from South Lafourche, finishing in times of over 17 minutes.

The Tigers’ Bailey Breaux finished in fifth place with a time of 18:06.

After winning their third meet in a row, the Tigers faced top state competition on Oct. 13 at the Catholic High School Invitational at Highland Park in Baton Rouge. The Catholic High meet is regarded as one of the top meets in the state, with more than 290 runners in the boys varsity division.

Although the Tigers win streak came to an end, the team finished 13th out of 43 teams. That should put them in contention for a top 10 finish at the state meet in November.

Jesuit, Episcopal and St Paul’s finished first, second and third, respectively.

Individually, the Robinson twins also had their winning streak end at four, finishing fourth (Beau) and eighth (Bryce). The twisting course with hills is not something that the Tiger runners are accustomed to, but they still performed admirably.

“The hills made it tough,” Beau said. “My legs were burning on the first one. I just kept pushing,” said Beau.

Bryce said that the team might try to practice running on the levee since the state course also has hills.
