Tigers volleyball team hosts Braves

Mallory Laumann and her Destrehan teammates are pushing forward as district play begins.

The Hahnville volleyball team has put together a strong season so far, but the intensity will rise even further as the Lady Tigers host H.L. Bourgeois in their district opener today.

H.L. Bourgeois is the defending champion of the district and Hahnville coach Mendi LeBoeuf said the Braves well-rounded attack will present a challenge for her team.

That said, there is plenty of excitement around the team for this game.

“Our kids are really super excited about it,” LeBoeuf said. “We haven’t played at home in the past two weeks and they can’t wait to get back in their gym.”

LeBoeuf said the Braves’ size presents issues at the net for an opposing team and that Bourgeois historically brings a very strong defense to the table.

“They have a very good program over there, and we’re going to have to play extremely well if we’re going to come away with the win,” LeBoeuf said.

Hahnville went 2-2 at last weekend’s Morgan City tournament. The Tigers defeated St. Louis and Comeaux while losing to South Terrebonne and Newman.

“I felt like we played against some good competition,” LeBoeuf said. “We’re still trying to establish more consistency. I think the true challenge for every team is finding that ability to maintain focus on a daily basis. We’ve played 19 matches already, plenty of volleyball. We’re continuing to improve in some areas but getting to that consistent A-game is what we’re striving for.”

Hahnville bested Comeaux in three sets, 16-25, 25-21 and 15-6.

Kylie Roux finished with 15 kills. Stephanie Oubre had eight kills. Ellie Bergeron had 20 assists and 11 digs while Gabby Constant also added 11 digs. Alli Plaisance had eight digs.

Against St. Louis, the Tigers captured a 25-19 and 25-14 win.

Roux posted 21 kills. Oubre added seven kills. Bergeron had 27 assists. Plaisance had 11 digs.

Newman took a win in two sets, 25-20 and 25-17.

Bergeron had 13 assists and four digs against Newman. Roux made five kills and five digs. Constant made nine digs.

Hahnville fell to South Terrebonne 20-25, 25-19 and 15-12.

Roux made 18 kills and Bergeron had 22 assists.

Libero Gabbi Constant, LeBoeuf said, has brought a great deal of energy this season and her communication on defense has been a key element in keeping the Tigers strong.

“She makes sure everyone knows where they are and what we need to cover,” LeBoeuf said. “She’s done a really good job.”
