Tigers get back on track with 17-2 win over ESJ

After dropping their last five games, the Hahnville Tigers got back on track by pounding out 13 hits in a 17-2 victory over East St. John.

The Tigers jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first three innings, then scored eight in the fourth to cruise to the win. Austin Fremen finished 2-for-3 with five RBIs while Tyler Cooper went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Adam Dufrene picked up the victory, allowing only six hits in the win.

Fremen, Cooper and Dufrene were three of the six seniors honored before the game, which was the final regular season home game of the year for the Tigers.

“Tyler got his first home run, Austin hit the ball well and Adam kept East St. John off balance,” Hahnville head coach Kade Rogers said. “It was great that our seniors led the way on senior salute.”

The win comes at an important time for the Tigers, who didn’t want to enter the playoffs on a seven-game skid.

“This was a great win and it was just what the doctor ordered,” Rogers said. “We were able to refocus and regroup,”

Hahnville traveled to East St. John on Wednesday for their final regular season game of the year, but the game took place after press deadline. A win against East St. John would keep Hahnville’s hopes of hosting a first-round playoff game alive.

“Right now we are in the top 16 and a win would almost guarantee that we would host a playoff game in the first round,” Rogers said. “We also want to be playing good heading into the playoffs.”

Hahnville is currently 18-11 overall and 6-8 in district play.

Playoff brackets should be announced this weekend. See next week’s edition to find out who the Tigers will play in the first round.
