Tigers cross country team looks to three-peat as district champs

The Hahnville High School cross country team goes into this coming season with high hopes.

The Tigers are returning the majority of their team from last year, a team that won their second consecutive district championship.

The team also placed 14th in the state out of 41 teams at the end of the season.

The Tigers will be led this year by twin seniors Beau and Bryce Robinson. Both of the Robinson brothers made the LHSAA All-State team in cross country last year and are looking to build on that success. At one point during the season last year, the Tigers won three consecutive meets.

The sledding may be a little tougher this year, however, as the Tigers are moving into a new district with some old rivalries.

“South Lafourche is always tough and Central has been steadily improving,” Beau Robinson said.

Bryce Robinson said that the Tigers will compete at Highland Park in Baton Rouge for a few meets this year, which will match up Hahnville with the top teams in the state.

The Tigers will actually begin their season with two meets at Highland, the first on Sept. 7 and the next on Sept. 14.

St. Paul’s, Catholic of Baton Rouge, Brother Martin and Jesuit are some of the 5A powerhouses that usually make the trek to the hilly terrain at Highland. In their only trip to Highland last year, the Robinsons finished 4th (Beau) and 8th (Bryce), and the Tigers finished 13th out of 43 teams.
