Tigers beat STM 17-10, but can’t hold on against Barbe, Evangel

The Hahnville Tigers struggled last week in non-league play with losses to Evangel High School and Barbe High School, but saved face when they met St. Thomas More.

Hahnville dropped its first game 6-5 on Thursday by giving up the lead in the seventh inning as Evangel rallied from behind to capture the win.

Senior Hahnville pitcher Trent Bergeron recorded the loss after walking one, striking out two and allowing three hits. Sophomore Austin Perrin stole home in the bottom of the first to put the Tigers on the board 1-0.

Juniors Mathew Barbier and Bryce Hargis scored a run apiece in the bottom of the second, along with senior Bradley Aucoin, who crossed the plate on a bases loaded walked batter. Hargis scored the Tigers final run in the fifth inning to lead the game 5-3 going into the top of the sixth. However, Evangel scored three runs in the top of the seventh to win the game.

Friday the 13th turned out to be good luck for the Tigers as they took down St. Thomas More 17-10.

Sophomore Waylon LeBlanc picked up the win for the Tigers. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first off a single by senior Brock Harrell that scored LeBlanc. An RBI single by junior Logan Billingsly also scored junior Matt Barbier. Tied 2-2, Hahnville pulled away scoring 10 runs in the second inning followed by an  Abate solo home run in the third inning to put the Tigers up 14-3. St. Thomas More scored two more runs in the bottom of the third, and three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 14-8.

A Braxton Dufrene score in the top of the fifth, courtesy of an Abate sacrifice fly,  a LeBlanc score off a wild pitch and a Peyton Dufrene hard grounder RBI to center field  scored senior Logan Billingsly in the top of the sixth put the game out of reach for St. Thomas More.

On Saturday the Tigers fell to Barbe 4-0. Sophomore pitcher Austin Perrin was charged with the loss after he struck out five, walked two and allowed four runs.
