Swim team board takes over WCC pool, makes several improvements

In the past few months, members of Willowdale Country Club may have noticed some significant changes taking place in the pool area.

Recently, the club’s Swim Team Board took over operations of the pool and has made a number of improvements that include replacing the bathroom and office ceilings, landscaping, creating a central entrance, installing new lights, putting up safety signs, improving drainage, installing new starting blocks and cleaning.

“We have been working hard to make improvements not just in the physical appearance of the pool, but also in the operation of the pool,” said Pool Publicist Tammy Eastepp.

But the board is not stopping there.

Board member Brett Matherne said that even more improvements are planned for the coming months, including painting safety lines and coping around the pool, extending pool hours to include morning adult lap times and water aerobics classes, and hosting teen nights. Wintering operations are also on the board’s list, and they hope to buy a custom pool cover and additional equipment before the winter.

Matherne said that the board is also teaming up with the golf side of the club to create a nine-hole putt-putt course.

The pool is a membership club and the improvements are being made for the benefit and pleasure of the members, Matherne said.

Pool membership forms are available at www.wccgators.com and at the Willowdale Country Club office.
