St. Charles rec All-Stars sweep state tournament

Recreation All-Star teams representing St. Charles Parish swept the Babe Ruth state tournament, with five different age groups winning the championship in their respective division.

The teams won the title in the 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U divisions in the tournament held in St. Francisville. The teams are currently playing in the Southwest Regional tournament, which is underway at the West Bank Bridge Park in Luling.

“It speaks volumes about our program,” St. Charles Parks and Recreation Director Duane Foret said. “This is the first time in the parish’s history of particpating in Babe Ruth that all of our teams have swept the competition. It says a lot about the participants, coaches and parents who drive their kids all over to compete.

“We are very proud.”

St. Charles Parish players also took home the MVP award in all the divisions in which they played.

The winners were McKenna Cortez in the 8U division, Peighton Cancienne in 10U, Pylar Zeringue in 12U, Mia Casanova in 14U and Megan Adams in 16U.

Now, the girls have set their sights on a regional championship, which they will go after in front of their home town fans.

“Not only do we have a successful state run, but now they are competing in the regional in front of their parents, coaches and some of their league participants,” Foret said. “It’s a very special moment for them.”
