Voo Doo Dolls end season on positive note

The 9-10 Mimosa Voo Doo Dolls’ season ended during the end of the season tournament in mid June, but the girls fought hard through double elimination, live pitching, and Louisiana’s summer heat.

Their season was nothing short of memorable, and Nina Begue was able to recap on some of the best and worst times during her Voo Doo Doll season. Being the catcher for the Voo Doo Dolls, Nina was in on all the action and was always at the top of her game to catch the on coming pitch or throwing the ball to first.

“Catching is my favorite position because I always try to pick up the ball quickly and throw it to first as often as I can,” says Begue. She also felt that her coach, Neil Whitney, gave all the players an opportunity to play different positions so that “we were never forced to like a position,” says Nina. She has played two years for Coach Whitney and had nothing but great and positive things to say about his coaching abilities.

Another big accomplishment for the season was live pitching. Most of the girls have never had experience with a live pitcher, which took some getting used to with the players. But playing in two tournaments in the beginning of the season and having games almost every week, the girls adapted well and found their swing.

“Coach never really fussed us and always encouraged us to do our best,” says Nina. No one can play a perfect game, but that was okay with the players of the Voo Doo Dolls because they were perfect at keeping their spirits high and never giving up. At the end of the season, the Voo Doo Dolls were able to be Zephyr buddies on May 24, which they got to go out on the field and sing with them the national anthem. The experience was “awesome” for the girls and gave them great bonding time during the game. They cheered and sang together much like they did for many of their own games. One of the famous cheers they sang were the softball shuffle. To another great season, the Voo Doo Dolls ended with a bang. No telling what’s in store for them next year.
