Des Allemands church sponsors Sports Camp

Des Allemands First Assembly of God will sponsor a “Breaking Free”mega sports camp Aug. 6 to 10 at the church on U.S. 90.

Registration will be held at 4:45 p.m. each day. Pick up is at 8 p.m.

Children ages 5 to 11 may choose one sport to focus on. Sports are baseball, soccer and cheerleading.

Rallies, sports stories and Bible stories also will be featured.

Become a junior Saintsation

You can be in that number dancing on the field of the Louisiana Superdome as a member of the Junior Saintsations.

Junior Saintsations will perform during the pre-game festivities of the New Orleans Saints vs Miami Dolphins on Thursday, Aug. 30.

The program is open to young ladies ages 6 to 16.

Hornets host kid b-ball clinics

The New Orleans Hornets are currently hosting a series of basketball clinics throughout Louisiana for children ages 7 to 14.

The clinics are free, but participants are asked to bring five cans of food or make a $5 donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana.

Pre-registration is required and forms are available at www.hornets.com.

Space is limited to 250 kids per half-day session, with 7 to 10 year olds participating from 9 a.m. to noon and 11 to 14 year olds participating from 1 to 4 p.m.

Each session features three hours of basketball basics, a Hornet’s T-shirt and a photo with a Hornet’s player.

3-mile run/walk set for August

Harvest Time Community Development will present Running for the Next Generation, a three-mile run/walk on Aug. 4.

The event begins at 8 a.m. at the St. Charles Parish Courthouse on River Road in Hahnville and ends at the West Bank Bridge Park in Luling.
