Softball district proves tough for Destrehan, Hahnville

Everyone has talked about how tough Class 5A District 6 is for baseball, but the Hahnville and Destrehan softball teams are having their share of trouble in the lady’s side of things.

The Lady Tigers have been almost unstoppable outside of the district and have roared to a 20-9 record so far this season.

However, Hahnville is only 2-4 inside the district, with losses to Destrehan, East Ascension, Dutchtown and St. Amant.

In fact, the Lady Tigers two district wins came in a 3-0 win against East St. John and a 6-1 victory over Destrehan.

But even though their district record might not be too impressive, the Lady Tigers have shown glimpses of brilliance outside of it.

Just last week, the Lady Tigers rattled off four straight shut out victories.

The first of those came by way of a 13-0 shellacking of Morgan City.

Hahnville then blanked Central Lafourche 10-0, before cruising by Destrehan and East St. John in identical 3-0 wins.

Destrehan started off the season slow, but has eventually pushed through the season with a 6-16-1 record

In district play, the Lady Cats are 1-5.

Their only district win came in a 4-3 nail-biting victory over Hahnville, while their losses have come to St. Amant, East St. John, East Ascension, Dutchtown and HHS.

Both teams have time to make amends for those early losses, with Destrehan set to end the season with five straight district contests.

Those games include another showdown with rival Hahnville, followed by games against St. Amant, East St. John, East Ascension and Dutchtown.

Hahnville will face off in a rematch with Destrehan, then end district play with games against East Ascension, Dutchtown, East St. John and St. Amant.
