Ormond Country Club Swim Team is in full swing

Team to conclude season with a friendly meet against rival Hill Heights

Ormond Country Club swim season is in full swing. The club’s swim team has three more meets before concluding their season with a show down between Ormond and Hill Heights Country Clubs.Ormond’s Swim Team is under the direction of Head Coach, Courtney Gist. Gist was a long time assistant coach for the team, before taking over the ranks of head coach for the first time this year. Assistant coaches for the team include Rich Borickaert and Lauren Call.
The team’s current record is 1-2. Their losses have included Metairie Country Club by only 6 points and most recently lost to Mimosa. This Wednesday the team hopes to rebound by meeting challenger, Southern Yacht Club. Ormond will end the season with a meet against Bellemeade on July 12.

“Claire Dantin is excellent with Freestyle and Backstroke. She has been with the team since she was three years old and has become a great competitive swimmer at only the age of 5,” said Detillier. “Jordan Hustkins, 11-12 girls, is also a great swimmer. She consistently places at all the meets.”

“Zachery Sellars is the team’s over-all high point winner,” said Detillier. She went on to say, “Reid Detillier is also great at the breast stroke.”

“We just try to make sure the kids have fun. We stress that swimming is a team sport and an individual sport. The kids are very enthusiastic and we always have huge turn outs for practice and stroke clinics. The stroke clinic is a program designed to help swimmers improve their strokes. There is a waiting list for that program,” said Detillier.

“This year we are going to have a friendly meet between the two country clubs. In the regular season, we don’t swim each other. This meet will give the kids a chance to get some bragging rights,” said Michele Detillier, Swim Team Coordinator for Ormond Country Club.

The rival teams will face off on July 17 at the Hill Heights pool at 6:30.
