Local girls dominate all-district team

5 for Hahnville and 6 for Destrehan on first team

The All-District team was released for girls’ soccer and plenty of talent represented the area.

On the first team for Hahnville High School, senior midfielder Rachel Byrd, sophomore midfielder Samantha May, sophomore striker Ashley Eusea, junior goalie Megan Waters and freshman defender Raven Scott were named, with offensive juggernaut, Eusea named offensive MVP for scoring 38 goals this season.
This is familiar territory for Eusea, as she made the All-State Freshman team in 2005, winning the Golden Boot for most goals scored. Eusea missed a portion of the season after injuring her knee in the second game versus Destrehan. In the end, the Lady Tigers were runners up in the district.

Describing his team, first year Coach Jared Larousse said, “Rachel was one of our leaders. She helped keep the team going, being our second main threat after Ashley,” adding, “Samantha was vital to our offense, as a lot of the attacks came from her side.” As far as Waters, Larousse said, “She is a real good goalie,” adding, that she and other freshman Raven Scott will be vital to the team’s future.

Even more impressive, at Destrehan High School, six girls made the first team: Taryn Ramsey, Katie Robinson, Heather Tizzard, Sara Matthews, Kala Keller, Desiree Harvey each were honored, with Ramsey being named defensive MVP as a standout defender. This is indicative of their performance, as Destrehan won the district.

Each school represented the parish well, as they were exceptional in the playoffs this year. The girls from Destrehan made it all of the way to the State Regional, losing in a hard fought match to Acadiana, 2-0, while Hahnville bowed out a round earlier in the bi-district, losing to Chapelle, 3-1.
