Richard’s 20 pts lead late charge
On Friday night, Destrehan Lady Wildcats and Hahnville Lady Tigers battled it out in the biggest rival of the year. The Lady Wildcats took the victory over the Tigers 71-59. Both teams had been preparing for their archrivals for weeks and were eager for the game.In the first half, the game stayed tied up throughout the first quarter, but the Tigers took the lead in the second quarter. Eventually, Destrehan pulled away in the fourth qauter.
Leading the Tigers were Nadia Cox with 13 points and Missy Schubbs scored 9 points. Although the Lady Tigers Cheneye Hill and Danielle Douglas worked hard on defense, showed hustle, and exhibited teamwork, they could not stop the Wildcats.
The Lady Wildcats fought hard, but succumbed to a late charge by the Wildcats. Lady Tiger Cheneye Hill said, “I am very disappointed. We should have won, but we lost it in the fourth quarter,” adding optimistically, “We’ll get them next year.”
In the fourth quarter the Lady Wildcats scored 6 points over the Lady Tigers in approximately a minute. This proved to be decisive moment.
Leading the Lady Wildcats were Shunna Richards with 20 points and Tawanna Lee with 16 points. Also scoring for the Wildcats were seniors Candice McGee, who scored 12 points, and Schaymane Moses with 11 points. These four proved to be the edge in the hard fought battle.
With the Lady Wildcats’ fourth quarter burst over the Lady Tigers, the St. Charles’ rivalry now rests in their hands. In the loss, Lady Tiger Danielle Douglas reflected, “We could have worked harder because we had a chance but opportunities come and go.”
