Lady Tigers win Battle of the Bayou for second year in a row

For the second-straight year, the Hahnville Lady Tigers (9-2) are Battle on the Bayou champs, beating Comeaux in a thriller that came down to penalty kicks.

Annie Kinler, Destiny Louviere, Grayson Touchard and Marissa Aucoin all scored in the shootout, which led the team to a 4-3 penalty kick advantage and the tournament championship.

“Our team battled through some tough opponents this weekend,” Lady Tiger head coach Shaun Crochet said. “Our lineup is coming together, the girls are working hard each day to improve to become a quality team and return to the state playoffs and compete in our district.”

To reach the finals, the Lady Tigers first had to get past Central Lafourche, University Lab and H.L. Bourgeois. Arden Robert and Jessica Donnaud both scored against Central Lafourche to give Hanville a 2-0 victory, and Donnaud and Brandie Fabre knocked through the winning goals in a 2-1 win over University Lab.

The Lady Tigers then blanked H.L. Bourgeois behind goals by Ashley Huffman, Donnaud and Touchard.

Goalkeepers Louviere and Kristal Breaux also allowed only one goal during regulation in the four matches, and Louviere saved three of the six penalty kicks in the shootout to propel the team to victory.

The Destrehan Lady Cats also participated in the tournament but struggled in their three games. The team lost to Morgan City 0-4, fell to Comeaux 0-1 and couldn’t get on board in a 0-1 loss to Episcopal School of Acadiana.
