Lady Tigers sweep tourney, improve to 11-1 on season

Somebody forgot to tell the Lady Tigers that this was supposed to be a rebuilding year. Despite losing more than half of their starters from last season, Hahnville swept perennial powers Live Oak, Vandebilt Catholic and Chapelle during last weekend’s Catfish Classic to improve to 11-1 on the season.

Hahnville 8 Chapelle 7

The Lady Tigers picked up an extra innings victory over Chapelle in the first game of the tournament after Taylor Hogan drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth to bring in the winning run.

The Tigers had taken a 7-1 lead into the seventh inning, but Chapelle battled back in the top of the frame by scoring six runs to send the game into the eighth. Both teams finished with 12 hits in the high-scoring contest.

Hahnville was led at the plate by Kaylyn Morales, who finished 3-for-4 with one run in the game. Pepper Baker added three RBIs, while Bryce Button, Hogan, Lauren Simar, Maeson Martindale and Madison Fremen all drove in runs for the Lady Tigers.

Lauren Beadle picked up the win after striking out 10 in 7.2 innings.

In their second tourney game against Live Oak, the Lady Tigers once again kept things interesting until the final inning. Martindale tripled in the bottom of the seventh to drive in two runs and give the Lady Tigers a 4-3 victory.

Once again, Hahnville took an early 2-0 lead by the third inning only to see Live Oak score three in the top of the sixth. The Lady Tigers first run came on a Live Oak error and Megan Bush put Hahnville up 2-1 after blasting a double to left.

Martindale led the Lady Tigers from the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Bush finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Morales was impressive once again, going 3-for-4 and scoring two runs.

Beadle picked up the win for Hahnville, striking out five and allowing six hits in seven innings.
