Lady Tigers fall to Chapelle

Hahnville girls basketball team loses 56-39 in semifinal round

The Hahnville girl’s basketball team finished just inches shy of the Class 5A state championship game, falling to Chapelle 56-39 in the semifinals on Monday night.

The Hahnville Lady Tigers had advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 1987, when former LSU women’s basketball coach Pokey Chatman ruled the court.

The Lady Tigers had advanced to the semifinals after a thrilling 61-59 win over Natchitoches Central last week.

Chapelle jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first few minutes of the semifinal and managed to hold on to a slim 15-14 lead at the break.

Chapelle then exploded in the second half, pulling away from the Lady Tigers for the eventual win.

The Lady Tigers shot only 30 percent for the game, while Chapelle shot 43 percent.

In fact, Nadia Cox was the only Hahnville player to finish in double figures, coming away with 18 points.

Olivia Grayson and Sarah Carr helped Chapelle to the victory by recording 16 points and 10 points, respectively.

Chapelle advances to the state championship game on Friday where they will play Southwood, which beat West Monroe 48-29 in their semifinal.
