Hahnville’s volleyball season came to an end last week as the Tigers fell in the Division I playoffs to host H.L. Bourgeois, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-12.

Bourgeois hosted as the No. 12 seed. Hahnville entered the postseason as the 21st seed.

Stephanie Oubre recorded 10 kills and served 3 aces for Hahnville (18-19). Kylie Roux added 7 kills and 7 digs. Ellie Bergeron made 24 assists and 9 digs.

“It’s always a tough game against a team like H.L. Bourgeois, especially on the road,” Hahnville coach Mendi LeBouef said. “They played very well. They’re a tough team because they play very good defense, and that puts a ton of pressure on your offense because just executing well isn’t enough, you have to execute extremely well. They had us in terms of height and when you couple their offense and hitting with that defense, it creates a very tough matchup.”

The Tigers were very young this season — they will, in fact, return the entire team next season, as they lose no senior players.

“We exhibited a lot of growth, I thought,” LeBouef said. “I think, as the season went on, we saw our players really start playing well together, considering we began as almost an entirely new lineup.”

LeBouef said the team made a lot of fundamental improvements in different areas and that next year, Hahnville could be a squad to be reckoned with.

“The challenge now is to establish that consistently and get out of some of the ups and downs that come with youth,” she said. “That’s what will have to come into play next year for us, to get where we want to be.”
