The Hahnville Lady Tigers were impressive throughout the 13th annual Battle on the Bayou soccer tournament, advancing to the finals before falling to Catholic High of New Iberia in the championship game.

Hahnville won all three of their pool games, defeating Morgan City 2-0 in the first game, beating Riverside 3-0 in the second game, and then knocking out Live Oak 1-0 in their final pool game.

After winning their pool, the Lady Tigers battled DeRidder High School in the semifinals. Though it was an extremely physical game, the Lady Tigers got the upperhand for the 2-1 victory.

For the championship, the Lady Tigers took on Catholic High, who finished the 2009 season as the Division 3 state runner-up. Catholic took an early 1-0 lead, and though the Lady Tigers had some chances early to even up the game, Catholic’s defense held tough.

Catholic would score their final goal with only 20 seconds left in the game for the 2-0 victory.

The Lady Tigers are now 8-4-1 on the season. They play at Terrebonne High School on Friday in a non-district match. The Lady Tigers open district at home next Tuesday, Dec. 14 against Dutchtown, who won the district last season.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

The Lady Tigers are on a roll, having won five of their last six matches. Defensively, the squad has only allowed three goals in those six games.

Hahnville’s junior varsity went 1-2 in the tournament, falling to Comeaux and DeRidder. However, the team picked up a huge 8-0 win over Independence.
