S-ball tourney
The J.B. Martin Lady Cougars softball team won the championship in the recent Toot Granier Fastpitch Softball Tournament, hosted by Lutcher High School.
The Cougars began the tournament with an 8 to 2 win over Ascension Catholic that featured a strong pitching performance by seventh grader Hannah Haydel and a three-run home run by Elise DeBruler.
Up next for the Cougars was the Vandebilt Catholic Terriers.
The 9- 0 victory was highlighted with timely hitting by Ashley Landry, a home run by Taylor Webre and a complete game no hitter, called by catcher Paige Heurtin and pitched by Elise deBruler.
The Cougars played their way into the Championship by defeating Houma Jr. High School. Pitcher Courtney Dutreix was solid in the circle – helped by the hot Cougar bats and a Home Run by Demi Caple.
In the Championship game the Cougars rallied in their last at bat for a 4 -3 win and the tournament title.
