Lady Cats fall in first round of Class 5A playoffs

The Destrehan Lady Cats dropped the first round game of the Class 5A playoffs to No. 13 seed Alexandria 4-2.

The team’s seventh inning rally fell short, according to Destrehan head coach Kenneth Montz.

Trailing 4-0 going into the final inning the Lady Cats began a rally on a walk by junior Krista Robles, a single by senior Morgan Foret and a double by junior Taylor Lucich, which scored courtesy runner sophomore Tabitha Tabb.

Destrehan junior Katie Brady walked to load the bases before Alexandria turned the double play. An error and a walk plated one more run before a final ground out ended the game.

Montz said it was a high level game. “They made one or two more plays than we did,” he said. “It was the difference in the game.”

Montz feels good about the season after finishing 11-2 in district play.

“I feel that we had a very good season,” Montz said. “We had six new faces in the starting lineup. We finished the year winning 12 out of the last 14 games. Expectations for next season will be high, we have eight returning starters. We have set an expectation of excellence and competitiveness in the program over the last five years.”
