High School PLAYMAKERS

Sophomore linebacker Darzel Washington had a big game against Destrehan last week by helping the Tigers slow down the Wildcat run game. Hahnville head coach Lou Valdin says that Washington made plays all over the field against the Wildcats, coming through with numerous tackles and a sack in the Hahnville loss.

Though the Tigers fell 33-7 to the Wildcats, their defense did a good job of holding Destrehan at bay, only allowing 238 total yards, with a majority of them coming in the second half.

Destrehan’s Rufus Porter is having a banner year for the Wildcats, and last week he helped swing the momentum his team’s way with a huge 44-yard interception return for a touchdown.

That return, which came in the third quarter, put the Wildcats on top 17-0 and officially put the game out of reach.

Besides the interception return, Porter also had seven tackles and three assist in his team’s 33-7 victory.
