HHS trio qualifies for indoor track championships

Hahnville’s dynamic trio of Breanne Bias, Bryce Robinson and Beau Robinson will compete at the LHSAA State Indoor Track Championships at the historic Carl Maddox Field House on LSU’s campus on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The “Killer B’s,” as they are known by some, qualified for the championships by competing in two qualifying meets over the past few weeks.

Bias qualified for the championships by taking first place in the triple jump at the Louisiana High School Qualifier with a jump of 35 feet, 9.5 inches.  That jump is good for the No. 2 qualifier spot this weekend, and is only 2.25 inches behind the No. 1 qualifier, Rebekah Markel of Lafayette High. Bias’s personal best jump is 36 feet, 1.5 inches, so going over 36 feet would not be uncharted territory for her.

The Robinson twins come into this weekend’s championships as the No. 3 (Bryce) and No. 4 (Beau) qualifiers in the 3200 meter run. Bryce finished as the runner-up in both qualifiers with times of 9:47.35 and 9:41.64. Beau finished 4th (9:50.96) and 5th (10:15.62).  The winners of the two qualifying meets were Eric Coston and Zachary Albright of St. Paul’s. Coston won the Louisiana High School Qualifier with a time of 9:41.27, and Albright set a new state record at the Last Chance Qualifier with a time of 9:24.12.

It is unlikely, however, that both St. Paul’s runners will compete in the 3200 meter run, as you have to choose between the 1600 meter and the 3200 meter. Albright also set a state record in the 1600 meter at the first meet.

The Robinson brothers will both have a very good chance at making the podium this weekend.
