HHS Sports Week with Megan Waters

Baseball

Season update: Congratulations to the Tigers for ending district play with a championship under their belt, and a play-off game coming soon next week reportedly against Airline High School. The Tigers, who always look for good competition, met their match and lost against Holy Cross, 1-0.

Hot hands: Pitchers of the game were Adam Risinger and Ryan Waters. Both athletes had exceptional performances on the mound and pushed the team through tough innings.

Sparkplug: All players put forth a tremendous effort to stay alive in the innings against Holy Cross. Although our boys didn’t win, their heart was in it the entire time.

What needs work: Although pitching gave up one run, the approach at the plate was not confident enough.

Up next: Play-off games will begin next week April 30 through May 4. Single elimination applies, but the Tigers plan to make waves to qualify for state.

Track and Field

Season update: The regional track meet in Baton Rouge was held on Thursday, April 26. All athletes had outstanding performances, with many girls and boys placing top seed in their event. The boys came out 4th of over 30 teams, and the girls had their first-ever championship in the regional meet.

Hot hands: For the girls – the 4×4 relay team, Kyla Thomas in hurdles, Kiera Davis in shot-put, the 4×2 relay team, and Raikia Preston all had excellent times and distances.

Sparkplug: The boys also had top contenders with Marcus Campbell winning the triple jump, Edward Green in the 100-meter dash and the 4×4 relay, placing 2nd in the event.

Up next: The state match is coming soon and all qualifying times will be entered to compete in that meet. Congratulations to the track team for another outstanding season.

Softball

Season update: Unfortunately the girls hung up their cleats for this season and are in preparation for a successful season next year. However, many senior softball members attained an athletic award for their superior talents and academic abilities at Hahnville’s senior award night Tuesday, April 24.

Tennis

Season update: The season for tennis has also come to a close in the Regional tennis match in Houma Wednesday and Thursday, April 25-26. All athletes competed for state qualifying scores, but Travis Fillman was the only one to make it to the consultation match and claimed 3rd for the Hahnville Tigers. Great job to all those who participated in the event, and next season may you have just as much success as the previous seasons.
