HHS’ Medina commits to North Texas

Hahnville High School running back Sergio Medina told his coaches last week that he has verbally committed to attend college and play football at North Texas.

Medina, the Offensive MVP in District 8-5A, rushed for more than 1,000 yards and scored 15 touchdowns in just seven games after head coach Lou Valdin moved him from middle linebacker to running back.

The halfback played in the Bayou versus River Region All-Star Classic at Nicholls State Friday night and Hahnville assistant coach John Lambert, who served as the head coach for the River Region squad, confirmed Medina’s verbal commitment to North Texas.

“Sergio is an excellent football player and had options from a college standpoint, but North Texas has recruited him very hard since the summer months,” Lambert said. “He is a very instinctive football player, rarely out of position, and North Texas plans on playing him at strong safety. In many ways, his high school and then the transition to college on defense is similar to that of Jerico Nelson when he came out of Destrehan High School.”
