Hahnville winning streak comes to an end at Riverside

Tigers make second half run, but fall 55-59

By Warren LeBeauf

The Hahnville boys basketball team has been on a roll as of late, but stumbled in a 55-59 loss to Riverside.

At halftime, the Tigers (12-5) trailed Riverside (19-4) 29-26, but made a run and took a lead at the beginning of the third. However, Riverside went on an 18-3 run to end the quarter.

In the fourth, the Tigers made yet another run and managed to get within two points with 1:19 left in the game. The Tigers couldn’t keep the momentum going and the Rebels sealed the game with a layup with seconds remaining.

After the game, Hahnville coach Brian Lumar remained positive.

“You guys played great and together in spurts and if you all put together an entire game like you did in the fourth quarter then we would be walking out of here celebrating,” he said.

Cedric Jenkins scored 25 points for the Rebels, including 14 in the third. Ricardo Gathers added 19.

Warren LeBeauf, Byron Gauthier and Derek Howard each scored 12 points for the Tigers. Gauthier’s points came on four 3-pointers.

Before the loss, the Tigers were on a five-game winning streak, with three of those wins coming in the John Ehret tournament last week.
