Hahnville needs to win 2 of final 3 games for chance at playoffs

The Hahnville Tigers have won four of their last five games, but Monday’s loss to East St. John means they must win two of their final three games for a shot at the playoffs.

Before their 82-71 loss to East St. John, the Tigers had knocked off South Lafourche, Thibodaux, Destrehan and Terrebonne to improve their district mark to 7-3. Timmy Roberts led the team to a 40-34 win over Destrehan last week by scoring 12 points. Juwan Green added eight points while Fountainette Bradley finished with seven points.

“I was pleased in that we were focused and disciplined,” Hahnville head coach Jerry Hernandez said about his team’s win over their rival. “It showed we can win scoring in the 40s or the 70s.”

On Friday, Hahnville stretched their win streak to four games by knocking off Terrebonne, 77-55. Green and Shawn Maher led the team to the win by both scoring 16 points.

Smith finished with 14 points while Bradley added 11 points.

“Certainly we played well enough to win easily, but we did it executing our package,” Hernandez said. “All I want them to do is play every game the same way. It shouldn’t make a difference who the opponent is.”

Hahnville’s four-game win streak came to an end against East St. John on Monday, but the Tigers played one of their best games of the season against the Wildcats, who are 10-1 in district play.

East St. John led only 39-36 at the half, and the Tigers tied the game at 61-61 with 5:39 left in the game. However, free throws proved to be the difference down the stretch for East St. John.

Green had 25 points in the loss.

Hahnville will host H.L. Bourgeois on Thursday. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Tigers will wrap up the regular season next week against Central Lafourche and South Lafourche.
