Hahnville grad takes golf skills to college at ULL

Congratulations to HHS Graduate Dustin Petit who recently signed a commitment with the University of Louisiana-Lafayette for a golf scholarship. Petit helped lead Hahnville High to the Class 5A State Title in the spring then went on to Meridian Community College to lead his team to the 2006 MACJC State/Region XXIII title and an eight-under par team score.

He was the 2006 medalist in Region XXIII and was named the Mississippi junior college Player of the Year and was named to the national All-Tournament team.

He followed that by leading Meridian to a third-place finish in the NJCAA national championship and was named to the national All-Tournament team. Last summer Petit made the cut at the prestigious Future Masters in Dothan, Ala. by firing rounds of 72-73.

Under new MCC head golf coach Sean Covich, Petit has continued to flourish, posting four rounds of even-par or better this season.

During the 2006-07 season, he carried the teams second lowest tournament scoring average, was named to five All Tournament teams, was medalist-runner up three times, was a member of the MCC Golf All Academic team, and was named First Team All State and All Region. Petit’s MCC team recently captured the school’s third consecutive MACJC State/NJCAA Region XXIII Championship.

Petit was the low MCC golfer at that event shooting 69-76 (145).
