Hahnville girls knock off Denham Springs, 50-45

Behind 19 points from KaeLynn Boyd, the Hahnville Lady Tigers knocked off Denham Springs, 50-45, in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

Hahnville (22-7) was in control throughout the first half, outscoring Denham Springs 13-9 in the first quarter and rolling to a 26-19 lead at the half. But Denham fired back in the third quarter and tied the game at 34-34 after going on a 15-8 run.

Boyd and Rea Fields answered in the fourth though to give Hahnville the victory.

Fields was the only other Lady Tiger in double figures, finishing with 17 points. Taylor Weber had 7 points, while Rickell Preston scored 5 points.

Hahnville, who is seeded 10th in the playoffs and won their district, will now travel to Archbishop Chapelle (No. 7) on Thursday.

The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
