Hahnville’s quest for a state championship came to an end on Sunday when they fell to Dutchtown in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.
The Lady Tigers held the lead for most of the game beginning with a top of the third score when sophomore Pryscilla Prince crossed the plate off a Madison Fremen line drive to center field.
The game stayed 1-0 Hahnville until the top of the fifth inning when junior Maeson Martindale singled to second base scoring freshman Danielle Duplay.
Hahnville held the 2-0 advantage through the bottom of the fifth and top of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, Dutchtown began to rally with a run scored off a double to left field, and a run scored on a double to right field.
The final run was scored off a hit to deep left field. It was three up and three down in the final half inning to end the season for the Lady Tigers.
Hahnville head coach Jerry Nugent said he was extremely proud of every player on the team.
“They played hard all year long,” Nugent said. “I feel like we made a lot of progress.”
Hahnville finished the season with a 22-9 record going undefeated at 12-0 in the District 7-5A.
Nugent said he felt good about the team’s future and was looking forward to next season.
“Everyone is coming back next season with the exception of Lauren Beadle,” Nugent said. “Karly Taranto is terrific andI think she’ll do very well.”
No. 7 seed Dutchtown now moves on to the quarterfinals where they will play No. 2 seed Mt. Carmel, who defeated Ponchatoula.
