Hahnville drops back-to-back district games

After starting district play 3-0, the Hahnville Tigers have lost their last two league games against East St. John and H.L. Bourgeois.

Hahnville fell behind East St. John 33-24 at the break, and the Wildcats outscored the Tigers 22-13 in the third quarter to secure the 77-60 win. Tre’Von Jasmine led the Wildcats with 20 points. Hahnville’s Fontainette Bradley finished with 17 points, while Mason Aucoin had 15 points and Christian McKinney added 12.

“We didn’t shoot the ball well and [ESJ] shot the ball well. We also got into foul trouble pretty quick,” Hahnville head coach Marcell Fisher said about the loss.

Fisher added that because his team is young, they tend to turn the ball over a little too much.

“What has saved us from that is that we are a very good scoring team. Normally we have been outscoring teams by shooting threes and getting out in transition,” he said.

“ESJ kind of slowed us down.”

On Tuesday, Hahnville held a 31-28 lead over H.L. Bourgeois at the half, but the Braves took control in the third quarter by outscoring the Tigers 20-9. Bourgeois eventually won 58-51.

Nathan Kennedy led the Tigers with 15 points, while Bradley finished with 14.

Despite suffering back-to-back defeats, Fisher said his Tigers are playing with more confidence now than they were when the season began.

“Guys are starting to know what their strengths and weaknesses are,” he said. “Everybody is buying into their role and playing together. I think in terms of team morale and confidence, we are in a much better place now than we were earlier in the year.”
