Hahnville dominates on the ground in 1st playoff win

A viciously cold night could not stop the Tigers from making a heated statement with a 61-14 victory over Natchitoches Central on Friday, Nov. 14.Click here to see photos from the game.

The Tiger run game started out shaky, with quarterback Austin Perrin losing great opening field position early with a fumble on the quarterback sneak. The defense came to the rescue, immediately forcing a 4-and-out with a bobbled punt.

The receiving corps of Rickey Preston and Brandon Singleton lit up the 1st half. Singleton had a long catch-and-run that set up a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Bradley Aucoin.

After another stop, Singleton lit up special teams with an 82-yard punt return for the Tigers’ 2nd touchdown on the night..

The first significant ground yardage came during a sneak by quarterback Mike Neal, sprinting 21 yards for another Tiger touchdown late in the 1st quarter. The touchdown was set up another long run by the junior quarterback.

The second quarter saw a run game come alive that, last week, left coach Saltaformaggio wondering if his team would have to rely on the pass in the post season. Hahnville scored three rushing touchdowns, including a 45-yard run by Norquell Flowers.

Shortly before the half, Hahnville attempted a failed 4th down conversion with Neal at the helm. Two plays later, the dominant defense forced a fumble that was recovered in the endzone by defensive lineman Terrence Johnson.

Initial trouble in the Tigers’ secondary led to the first of only two Natchitoches touchdowns early in the 2nd quarter. The normally solid Tiger’s backfield had a few miscommunications and missed tackles that gave the Chiefs a few big plays. Natchitoches, however, rarely capitalized and was inconsistent in its offensive attack.

Hahnville chose to finish out the rest of the game on the ground, netting three more touchdowns. Bradely Aucoin and Devonte’ Cravin both ended the night with a pair of touchdowns each.

Hahnville will now face #5 Haughton High School in the next Friday, at Haughton.
