Hahnville, Destrehan players strap on pads again for all-star game

Several Hahnville and Destrehan football players will take part in the HTV-Lions Club Bayou versus River Region All-Star Showdown, which will be played in John L. Guidry Stadium on the campus of Nicholls State this Friday.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Tickets for the all-star game can be purchased at the game and the cost is $7. The game will also be tape-delayed by HTV-10, and the times of the rebroadcast will be announced at a later date.  NFL Draft Analyst Mike Detillier and HTV 10’s Stan Gravois will provide play-by-play and commentary.

The all-star game pits some of the most talented prep football players from the River Region against those from the Bayou Region.

Players from Destrehan, Hahnville, St. James, St. Charles Catholic, Lutcher, Riverside and West St. John  will represent the River Region.

Players from H.L. Bourgeois, South Lafourche, Central Lafourche, Assumption, South Terrebonne, Thibodaux, Terrebonne, Vandebilt and E.D. White will represent the Bayou Region.

Terrebonne head coach Gary Hill will coach the Bayou team and Destrehan head coach Chris Stroud will coach the River Region squad.

Those representing Hahnville include star running back Ahmad White, speedy receiver Dontrelle Strickland, deep threat Desvon Joseph, place kicker Hunter McDonald, power defensive tackle Jontrell Lockett and Eric Simpson, who played on both the Tiger offensive and defensive lines this season.

Those representing Destrehan include Tarquin Kenner, a three-year starter at linebacker, receiver De’Ante Armstrong, cover corner Josh Dewey, offensive lineman Matt Gifford and quick-footed defensive end Fred Jackson.

Two current NFL players have taken part in this game in the past. New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs holds the all-time rushing record with 230 yards, while Green Bay Packers cornerback Tramon Williams made a big impression with his performance in the all-star game.
