The 2007 Grand Isle International Tarpon Rodeo is scheduled for July 26 through 28

The Grand Isle International Tarpon Rodeo will be held this year from July 26 through 28. The official weigh-in site is Sand Dollar Marina located at Grand Isle.

The GITR is the oldest fishing tournament in the United States.

It was established in 1928 and annually attracts saltwater and coastal anglers from the southeast and gulf coast region.

Eligible categories include saltwater gamefish, and additionally there is “tag & release” division also.

The first through third place anglers in each division will receive a plaque. In addition all participants are entered into a raffle for the Grand Prize award.

For 2007 the grand prize winner will receive a 2008 186 Champion Coastal Champ, and galvanized trailer, the boat will be powered by a 150 hp Mercury Optimax outboard, and equipped with a Motor Guide 24 volt Great White trolling motor.

Mercury Marine has been the official outboard for the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo for over twenty-five years, and welcomes Champion Boats, and Motor Guide as the official boat and trolling motor of the Tarpon Rodeo respectively.

The grand prize drawing is open to participants registered in the Tarpon Rodeo, and the general public. Interested persons can purchase tickets to participate in the rodeo, or enter the grand prize drawing by purchasing registration forms available at outlets in Grand Isle, Leeville / Fourchon, Houma, and Metairie.
