Arkansas Tech has named senior forward Irvin Humphrey as this week’s sixth Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2009-10 school year.
Humphrey played his high school basketball at Hahnville.
Humphrey earns this week’s honor after helping the top-ranked Wonder Boys remain undefeated on the season following its wins last week over Ouachita Baptist (74-65) and Delta State (88-77). For the week, Humphrey, who is one of five seniors on this year’s team, averaged 9.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game and shot 57 percent from the field and blocked three shots in two games.
He opened the week with eight points, two rebounds and two blocks in the win over OBU and then scored 11 points and had two boards in the victory over Delta State to help Tech improve to 18-0 overall and 5-0 in the GSC. On the season,
Humphrey, who has started all 18 games for the Wonder Boys, is averaging 6.9 points and a team-best 5.3 rebounds per game.
He is shooting a team-best 59 percent from the field and has blocked 26 shots (1.4 blocks per game), which is fourth in the latest GSC statistics. Humphrey has scored in double figures in four games this season, including tallying a career-high 16 points against North Alabama on Dec. 5.
In his three-plus seasons at Tech, Humphrey has scored 453 career points, has pulled down 453 career rebounds and has blocked 89 shots, including blocking a career-best 34 shots as a freshman in 2006-07.
He is a career 58.3 percent shooter from the field and has scored in double figures in 12 career games and has recorded one career double-double.
