Former HHS QB leads USA to gold medal game

Former Hahnville High School quarterback Easton Melancon has helped lead Team USA to the gold medal game against Canada.

Melancon was selected to the U.S. Under-19 National Team after a stellar freshman season at Louisiana College. His college success has carried over to Team USA, as he guided the squad to victories over Mexico, Germany and Japan. The games have all taken place in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

In the USA’s 49-14 win over Mexico, Melancon completed two of his three passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for a 25-yard score in the victory.

In the following game against Germany, Melancon threw two touchdowns in his team’s 54-0 win. He completed six passes in the victory for 164 yards.

Team USA’s domination continued in a 43-0 win over Japan. In that game, Melancon was 8-for-14 with 84 yards.

After going 3-0 in pool play, Team USA advanced to the gold medal game against Canada, who is also undefeated in the world tournament. The game was held on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and occurred after the Herald-Guide’s press deadline.
