Former DHS ace helps LSU win SEC tourney

Former Destrehan ace Kurt McCune spent the early part of LSU’s season rehabbing from an injury, but the junior gave the Tigers a spark in the SEC championship game.

McCune came on in relief in the sixth inning of LSU’s game against Vanderbilt and recorded two strike outs. With a runner on base, McCune caught a line drive to end the inning without giving up a hit.

The Tigers would win in the 11th inning after a single by Chris Sciambra gave LSU a 5-4 victory.

At Destrehan, McCune was a two-time 1st Team All-State selection. During his senior year for the Wildcats, he posted a 9-4 record with 112 strikeouts in 86 innings.

In his freshman year for LSU, McCune led the staff with a 7-3 record and a 3.31 ERA. In his sophomore campaign, he went 3-4 with a 4.04 ERA and 24 strikeouts.

So far this season, McCune has a 3-1 record with a 3.32 ERA. He has struck out 13.
